“Old habits die hard”

BY STAFF REPORTER

It is a widely known fact that does not entail any study or the like to tell about the self-centered nature of the TPLF enterprise and its deep-rooted self-absorbed attitude.

This egocentricity is not a new fashion for TPLF. Rather, it had been there since its earliest years- while it was an armed rebel group three decades ago, during the years it was in power and even after it has been overthrown from power.

Throughout its history, the group has been striving to fulfill only what was best for it and in that way to satisfy its own selfish desires ignoring the needs of the general people.

As the old adage goes, old habits die hard, currently, faction’s selfishness reaching at its peak, it is gambling on its own people whom it is saying “fighting for them.”

By snatching humanitarian aids that should have been delivered to the people of Tigray; but feeding its own militants; over and above selling the items to traders, it is causing more miseries on them.

Food aid and medicines are entering into Tigray by plane and aid convoys. Unfortunately, the rebel faction, instead of delivering the relief items to the people who are in dire need of the assistance, is using the humanitarian assistance to feed its own fighters and is selling the rest to some private organizations, said youths who are bored to death by the selfish and destructive acts of the terrorist group and fled from Tigray State to Kobo Town, Amhara State.

As ethnic-Tigrayan youths, who fled Tigray to the Amhara stated to the reporters of the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA), TPLF is putting the lives of the people at risk starving them to death.

Mehari Abraha is one of the residents of Adigrat Town who fled to Amhara State seeking safety. As he stated while the Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF) was in Tigray, the people of Tigray had been benefitting greatly from the assistance provided to the State. However, at present, leave alone to get food assistance, they are compelled by the terrorist TPLF group to give grain and money. They are harassed and tortured.

Airplanes enter into Tigray twice a day with aid supplies. Aid convoys also transport large quantities of relief items to the State via Afar State. However, the people of Tigray are unaware where the aids are directed, he explained.

In earlier times, parents who sent their children to warfronts were receiving food aid. But now, the group is using the assistance to feed its own army and is selling the rest to private organizations.

Mentioning unavailability of medicines at public health facilities, he said medicines and medical equipment that have entered into the State are also sold to private pharmacies.

Surprisingly, the international organizations, under the leadership of WHO Chief Dr. Tewodros Adhanom are shouting as food aid and medicines are not entering to Tigray State. However, rather than shouting, they should check the whereabouts of the food aid and medicine; and who are using the items, he remarked. He also condemned the unbalanced view of the organizations.

“The international community should understand that the people of Tigray are starving to death by the terrorist TPLF group,” he added.

“We have witnessed the positive attitude the Ethiopian people and the government have towards the people of Tigray. It is the people of Amhara, who were portrayed by the TPLF group as if “it is the enemy of Tigray people” is taking care of the Tigreans who fled to Amhara state,” he said.

Biniam Araya, a resident of Adi Gudom, on his part said that even though he had repeatedly registered himself in his area for food assistance, he could not receive any.

Not only him, but most of the people will not get the needed assistance; “No one knows where the relief supplies that have entered into the State will go,” he said.

Mentioning that aid trucks and airplanes are entering into the State with food aid and medicine, he said unfortunately, the people of Tigray have not benefited from the aid.
