Japanese Company introduces electric car in Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA– The electric car introduced by Japanese E-Trike Company has significant role in utilizing alternative technology, supporting the Ethiopian green economic policy, creating job opportunity and reducing transport burden that the country currently faces, Ministry of Transport said.

Briefing journalists here yesterday, Minister of Transport Dagmawit Moges said that the electric vehicle launched by the Japanese Company in Ethiopia supports the Ethiopian green economic policy and helps to curb the transportation problem of the community at hand.

Hajime Miyake, Manager of Business Development Department for his part said that the electronic car (E-Trike) will have huge importance to reduce environmental pollution and hasten the trade relations between Ethiopia and Japan.

The company has spent about 10 million USD to operate the project including the costs of installing facilities and labor in Ethiopia, Hajime added.

Consuming 7.3-kilowatt electric power per hour, the E-Trike is advantageous to reduce the cost to be spent for petroleum, benzene, and the like.

As to him, the E-Trike can ride 80 kilometers after fully charging its battery for six to seven hours, and in the meantime it can be replaced by other fully charged battery. Besides, the life duration of the battery will stay for one and half year, Hajime said.
