Oromia State to return displaced persons home

ADDIS ABABA – The Oromia State‘s top priority is returning home displaced persons who were forced to flee different parts of State due to the recent nationwide unrest, said Shimelis Abdisa, the newly appointed Oromia State Deputy President. He also called on other States to do the same.

He made the remarks Sunday while official opening the second round peace conference between Amharas and Oromos at Ambo town.

“The Oromos and Amharas have centuries – old social, economic and political ties, no earthly power will break

 these ties spreading lies and standing on wrong side of history , both peoples are now working together to elevate their relations to the highest level in all fields.”

As to him, exemplary and praiseworthy relations between the two peoples will give a boost to Ethiopia‘s unity.

Shimelis reiterated that “We will work together in every aspect to make Ethiopia great and prosperous. During this historical time of political transition, it is our main duty to pass strong nation to the posterity and work day and night to ensure supremacy of rule of law across the country.”

For his part Dr. Ambachew Mekonin, Amhara State President , said despite both peoples’ long history of intermarriages and peaceful coexistence, irresponsible individuals have so far unturned no stone left to instigate violence between Amharas and Oromos via ill use of social media ,but in vain.

At the event, Dr. Ambachew explained vividly to the audience about the current conflict that took place at kemise town, locates in north-eastern Ethiopia.

The conference brought together high level government officials including former Amhara State President Gedu Andargachew, Oromia’s State Vice President Secretariat Adisu Arega and others.
