ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia has been elected to host 2019 Africa Day by African Diplomatic Team (Ambassadors and Higher Commissioners) residing in Nairobi, Kenya.
Ethiopian Ambassador to Kenya, Meles Alem Tuesday said that Ethiopia would hold the Africa Day slated for May 25, 2019.
The day will make Ethiopia to renew its commitments to strengthen African Union as it had played irreplaceable role for its establishment, he said.
“Ethiopia sees the day exceptionally and all citizens, embassy workers are committed to mark it colorfully.”
Africa Day observes the day on
which the Organization of African Unity (OAU), the forerunner of the African Union (AU), was formed by 32 independent African countries in Ethiopia’s capital, Addis Ababa to commemorate the foundation of OAU on 25 May 1963.
It has been celebrated in various countries on the African continent, as well as around the world. Africa Day pays tribute to the achievements made by African heroes back in 1963 that led the way and envisioned an Africa that is filled with greatness, and it is in each and every individual to take the baton of being the change and make Africa better.
