Unsolved sporting centers problems

ADDIS ABABA- Commission is working aggressively to alleviate sporting and recreational center problems in a sustainable way, FDRE Sport Commission said.

Sport Commission Facility Director, Asmra Gizaw, said, as a means to bring about a sustainable solutions for sporting and recreational center the commission together with stakeholders are discussed on the area.

The director indicated that the stakeholders have spotted major challenges in the area and they have also come up with solutions. He noted that, the role of investors in the area is vital.

Participants form National State Sport Commission stressed that, absence of smooth relationship with Land Administration offices and related cases have become an obstacle to develop sporting and recreational centers.

“Absence of legal documents that confirm the legality of sport land plots have made those sporting and recreational centers prone to confiscation for other developmental projects which is a serious threat. This is not a problem that is common only to Adids Ababa. It is the problem of other regions.”

Having this kind of legal sporting and recreational centers does not only have benefit for individual sport lovers. It has also a national value. Whenever there is such type of sporting and recreational centers the youth can have a places to spend their pleasure time which in turn enable the nation to produce professional sportsmen that represent their country at national and international arenas, he noted.

Studies have indicated that investment and the need for grazing land are major threats to sporting centers in urban and rural areas respectively.

Asmra noted that using the inputs the Commission has mobilized its resource for the successful implementation of its vision. However, this is not the sole responsibility of the Commission. It must be a shared obligation in line with the sport policy of the nation,” he added.
