The Netherlands, EC sign over 1.1 bln Birr grant agreement with Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA – The Government of the Netherlands and the European Commissions have signed a grant agreement worth more than 1.1 billion Birr with Ethiopia yesterday.

The Netherlands government has signed over 877 million Birr grant agreement with Ethiopia for the construction of a new Children’s hospital.

 On the occasion, Dr. Amir Aman, Ministry of Health said that Netherlands support will serve to construct a three hundred bedrooms children’s hospital and purchase equipment.

Meanwhile, Ethiopia and the European Commission (EC) have signed over 320 million Birr (10 million Euros) grant agreement for the Ethiopian Social Accountability Program III (ESAP3).

During the occasion, Adamu Nebebe, State Ministry of Finance said that the European Union has been a very important partner of Ethiopia in all aspects for the last 50 years.

“In terms of substantial resource allocation, it has been providing supports and Ethiopia is the largest recipients of EU support in Africa.”

It is critical to expand and promote social accountability program from 232 Woredas to 500 and help match the supply-demand gap.

Recently, the EU has pledged a grant of 100 million Euros grant to support Ethiopia’s reform process, he pointed out.
