Reform through technology

This is an era where technological innovation has took the lead in every sector. In more advanced countries technology and development are two sides of a single coin. Where there is economic development there is technological innovation. Where there is innovation there is economic progress.

One year has already passed since the country started a new reform in every sector. Lots of changes are being observed within short period. Both political and societal changes have accorded the nation positive responses from several directions.

The reforms have attracted the attention of almost all Ethiopians. And every government organization and others have mobilized their resources for the successful accomplishment of the reform. What is more, seeing the role of reforms for the overall economic, social and political change of the nation, closer attention and commitment is given to the civil service sector.

In exclusive interview with The Ethiopian Herald Civil Service Commissioner Bezabih Gebireyesus, said that the Commission is highly committed to realize the reform and make it sustainable.

He said that behind every national agenda- be it the private or the public agendas- the role of civil servants is crucial. In this regard, Civil service Sector has to address the basic issues of the public.

Using its different disbarments the Commission is trying its level best to upgrade its service provision. As part of this plan, human development is giver special emphasis. He further noted that, part of its vision to make the Civil Service sector effective, work ethics and nurturing working atmosphere is also given attention.

Technology is the other most important area where the Commission is working now. He said, whenever we apply appropriate technology, consumers could get better service. In this regard, the Commission has gave special attention to technology and innovation.

Bezabeh stressed that despite the commission is serving as an agent, the role of other stakeholder is important in realizing the already started activities. Ministry of Innovation and Technology is one of the stakeholders that will fill the gaps in area of Technology and Innovation.

Using this as a ground The Ethiopian Herald had also moments with MIT, State Minister, Jemal Beker. According to him, it is obvious that the type of technology a given country uses determine the type of economy it will have. Technology can determine the nation’s future.

“In this respect, the ministry is working to make reform effective through citizens who are familiar with technology. We can take countries like South Korea and other nations. This countries were once poor by all standard. However, the more they give attention to technological innovation the more they got developed. South Korea was a poor country in 1960s. But now, they have changed their country through technology. And Singapore has also brought change through technology.”

“Ministry of Innovation and Technology is working its homework for successful accomplishment of the reform. We have to produce technology friendly society and innovation has to be encouraged.”

He also said, the future of the nation is depended on the type of technology it uses and the kind of technologist it would have. He further said, the youth has to be part of this system. The other most important thing is reward. Students, innovators and programmers has to be appreciated and awarded for their achievements.

He further noted that, the nation is found in the right path towards economic progress. Signs of development are visible at every direction. But this change has to be supported by technology and innovation. In this regard, the Ministry together with other stakeholders will do their level best to sustain the economy.
