ADDIS ABABA- The innovation and technology sector of the nation is working aggressively to create productive citizens to assure the ongoing reform, said Ministry of Innovation and Technology(MIT).
Jemal Beker, MIT State Minister told The Ethiopian Herald that the country has largest population size in Africa and it is also endowed with land resource and livestock but, there is scarcity of skilled man power. In this respect, the ministry is highly working to increase productivity to support the reform.
“We are still using more labor intense technology. We have to alter this situation. Production and productivity can be increased if we properly utilized modern technologies. Therefore, the ministry is working to create productive society and make better lifestyle through technology”, he stated.
What is more, Jemal indicated that, the Ministry is also working aggressively to increase productivity of agricultural land through improved technology. As part of this plan, the Ministry is working to apply imported technologies that can convert acidic land to organic.
As to him, the nation has large livestock population size but it is not productive enough. If we apply improved technology we can change the situation. In this regard, the Ministry is preparing and implementing live stock transformation projects. “Without innovation and technology, the country cannot achieve productivity and achieve the expected result”. he state minister said, So we will mainly support the starting reform through creating enabling environment and productive public who uses technology.
Regarding health sector, Innovation and Technology Minister is mobilizing its resources to produce healthy community. As part of this plan, the ministry together with innovative youths have planned to apply drones that can distribute drugs to remote health centers. He said, within the coming 100 days drones will start their operation. The Ministry is also working to produce health equipment at home instead of importing them. According to Jemal, the Ministry has already signed an agreement with stakeholders.
Jemal said that the Ministry has gave special priority of creating societies that value knowledge and technology. He further noted that the Ministry has given attention to create digital economy through technology. The technology is expected to add value on primary products and permit farmers to connect with global market.
As to him, emphasis is also given to reduce women burden through technology based activities. He said, the Ministry is trying to address their challenges and make them productive by applying technologies.
He added, technology have a great role on the nation’s multipurpose movements. If we properly promote the technology, the reform will hit its target and the nation will align itself with other world.
