Key priority, finalizing the dam

ADDIS ABABA – Finalizing the Ethiopian Renaissance Dam should be the priority of all Ethiopian people wherever they are, GERD Committee on the reviews Dam status meeting.

The discussion about the current status of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance (GERD) was held in the presence of Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed and Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen. During the discussion, Prime Minister D/r. Abiy Ahmed said that the reform of being implemented in Ethiopia has rescued from failure.

Explaining the status of GERD, Project Manager Engineer Kifle Horo said that at its current stage, civil work stands at 83 percent; electromechanical work at 25 percent; steel work at 13 percent, with overall project completion status at 66 percent.

GERD financing has consumed up to 98.7 billion Birr to date, indicating an escalation of costs above what was originally estimated, primarily due to project completion delays.

 Due to the project construction delay’s it will consume 150 billion Birr to completion the dam generally and provide energy in full capacity Engineer Kifle noted.

Concluding the session, Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed have put message in taking great emphasize that it is the icon of all Ethiopian and Africa that show Africans could done every thinning by themselves.

So, he urged Ethiopians to step up their contribution to compete the iconic Dam of Ethiopia and Africa on its schedule so as to solve the electricity shortage of the nation.
