ADDIS ABABA – The third women’s competition that took place at Jigjiga was completed on Sunday with the victory of the Oromia region. The Amhara region took the second place while the South won the third place in the competition.
Benishangule Gumuz region was awarded to host the fourth women’s competition. The organizer said that this competition has been designed to promote the women’s involvement in sports. It may be difficult to produce talents that show strength in the international arena in short span of time, but the competition is a valuable instrument to pave the way in producing young women’s talent to reach to that global level.
The problem here is that of sustenance. What is common in the country is starting a certain programme and halting half way on the road. If the games continue and regions take them seriously it will make progress in generating elite athletes in different events, experts in the field suggest.
