ADDIS ABABA – A renowned German journalist, author and development expert Beate Wedekind, who witnessed Ethiopians’ overwhelming participation in the 6th General Elections here Monday, stated: “Thank God, the goodwill and the power of the people proved to be stronger than the fake news and the gloomy predictions of the so-called election experts.”
In her twitter post yesterday, Beate also said that the huge turnout proved international media’s fake news and the ‘predictions’ of ‘election experts’ are wrong.
She further highlighted that the public’s enthusiasm to exercise political rights unmasks the lies of the international media who since days had predicted turmoil and chaos and tried to influence the global public opinion against Ethiopia.
“What will the international media write, what will the fake news spit out? Best regards to all well-meaning people in and off Ethiopia, who are longing for a United Nation in Peace, Prosperity and Justice.”
Noting she was on the road in Addis Ababa a lot on Election Day, the journalist said that when the elections ballot closed, she was watching the sky turn dramatically, while millions of Ethiopians who went to the polls kept their cool.
“Proudly, most of them have been aware of their responsibility and took care that this important election-day passed peacefully and calmly,” Beate remarked.
