Woreta to get dry port terminal

WORETA (SOUTH GONDAR)- In a bid to facilitate import-export businesses, Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Service Enterprise (ESLSE) laid cornerstone yesterday for the construction of dry port terminal at Woreta town of South Gondar in Amhara state.

Lying on a 20- hectare of land, the port will help to cut time and cost previously incurred on business community. First phase of the construction that rests on a three hectare of land will see completion in six months’ time. ESLSE Executive Officer Roba Megerssa said the first phase would take an outlay of 100 million Birr.

Amhara State President Dr. Ambachew Mekonnen said this dry port terminal would facilitate freight businesses due to its proximity to Port Sudan via Metema. Also, local farmers would get permanent and temporary jobs.

In addition to contributing to food security of the area, the dry port can have impacts in attracting more investors to the state, he added. Up on completion, the port could accommodate up to 100, 000 containers, it was learnt.
