ADDIS ABABA – Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed bid farewell to President Emmanuel Macron yesterday as he concluded his two-day state visit to Ethiopia.
On Tuesday, Macron visited the Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela in the Amhara State along with Abiy Ahmed and discussed ways of renovating the churches inscribe in UNESCO’s World Heritage sites. The French President had assured Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed that France would provide necessary support to restore the churches.
The two countries have also signed four bilateral agreements in areas that include heritage conservation, defense force capacity building and financial aid. The two leaders presided over the signing of cooperation agreements between Ethiopia and France. Aisha Mohammed (Eng), Minister of Defence signed the defence cooperation agreement which covers training, capacity building, and strategic level exchanges, according to the PM Office.
Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance and Economic Cooperation has signed the Memorandum of Understanding on the Promotion of French Investments in Ethiopia. President Sahle-Work Zewde received President Emmanuel Macron later on Tuesday and held a discussion on ways to further deepening the allrounded bilateral relations between Ethiopia and France. President Macron arrived in Nairobi on Wednesday in his final tour of three African countries.
