Canada-Africa Parliamentary Association Chair arrives in Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA – A Canadian parliamentary delegation headed by Hon. Raynell Andreychuk, Chair of the Canada-Africa Parliamentary Association arrived on Monday in Ethiopia, as Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

State Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Markos Tekle welcomed the delegates. The State Minister briefed the Canadian delegation on the ongoing comprehensive reforms in Ethiopia, including opening up of the political space, release of prisoners, the return of armed groups, as well as the economic and social developments in the country.

Dr. Markos also mentioned the various key initiatives undertaken in the economic frontier, such as the partial and full privatization schemes of state-owned enterprises. In this regard, he called on Canadian companies to seize the lucrative trade and investment opportunities in Ethiopia.

While expressing his condolences over Sunday’s tragic plane crash of flight ET-302, the State Minister extended his profound sympathy to Canadian families and individuals who lost their loved ones. The Canadian parliamentary delegation also expressed their sorrow over the tragic incident, further underlining their confidence in Ethiopian Airlines, adding that they will take Ethiopian in their next travel to Uganda and their return trip to Canada.

They have reaffirmed their commitment to support the ongoing reforms in Ethiopia, and particularly help Ethiopia’s endeavors in areas of science and information technology as well as infrastructural development.
