President Macron on state visit to Ethiopia

ADDIS ABABA – President Emmanuel Macron, who is on a twoday state visit in Ethiopia, yesterday visited the world heritage, Rock-Hewn Churches of Lalibela, in Amhara State along with Premier Dr. Abiy Ahmed.

 Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed welcomed the President upon his arrival at Lalibela International Airport yesterday afternoon. Macron was scheduled to discuss about ways of renovating the churches which were inscribed as UNESCO’s World Heritage, according to the Ethiopian News Agency.

It is to be recalled that France agreed to provide support for the renovation of Lalibela churches during the visit of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to France in October 2018. Among the dignitaries who received the President are Amhara State Chief Administrator Ambachew Mekonnen and Culture and Tourism Minister Hirut Kassaw.

 Macron kicked off his four-day trip to Africa on Monday starting with Djibouti and he will travel to Kenya upon concluding his visit in Ethiopia.
