ADDIS ABABA– Second Conference of IGAD Ministers in charge of the Implementation of the Djibouti Declaration on Education for Refugees, Returnees and Host Communities to be inaugurated on Thursday here in Addis.
The one-day conference will be held under the theme: “Quality Education for Refugees, Returnees and Host Communities: Added Values of Regional Approaches in Education for Inclusive and Sustainable Development”. According to a media release by IGAD, the second conference is expected to provide policy and political direction, and evaluate the progress made on the implementation of the Djibouti deceleration, which was signed in December last year.
In addition, one of the other objectives of the Conference is to adopt an action plan for the implementation of the Djibouti Declaration and Plan of Action in the next two years, as to the same source. Further, the release stated that IGAD continues to play complementary and subsidiary roles in the process of harmonization, coordination, and sharing of best practices when it comes to providing access to education for their citizens.
Moreover, IGAD gives special attention to refugees, crossborder mobile populations and hard-toreach host communities which require all-rounded support in getting social development services including health and education, the release reads. It was learned that the Conference also aims to validate and adopt regional policy frameworks and strategies on education for refugees, returnees and host communities.
