Guerilla fighting no longer feasible as Ethiopia has a powerful army

BY YOHANES JEMANEH

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) Special Operations Force Training Center has just graduated 12th and 34th round Airborne Brigade and Commando members respectively. The guest of honor of the graduation ceremony, Army Development Coordinator Lieutenant General Bacha Debele urged outlaws and senior leaders of the TPLF junta to peacefully surrender before the deadline the government put is over.

The Lieutenant General noted that the remnants of the junta are daydreaming to win back Addis Ababa through Guerilla fighting after they suffered a devastating blow and bitter defeat in the conventional warfare. However, the junta is trying to delude the Tigray people that it had mounted a guerilla fight oblivious to the fact it is stripped of its backbone to do so. In a futile and frantic bid it rather is inflicting pain and killing innocent civilians and seizing humanitarian aid including food and drug.

Lieutenant General Bacha Debele

“To carry out such a guerilla war there is no place in the country where the junta could hide itself from the eagle eyes of the National Defense Forces. ‘You—junta members— better accept the call of the government to yield hands instead of prolonging your own agony and the public. However, if you opt to remain as fugitives, you will face the severest punitive measures and will be wiped out wherever you are seeking a refuge’ ”. he said

It was via the Office of the Prime Minister on 19 March 2021 that the federal government issued its “Final Notice” on TPLF Outlaws and those who made allegiance with them to continue guerilla warfare after the end of the law enforcement operation that was held following the brutal attack on the ENDF.

According to the notice, the action taken by the federal government has obliterated the illegal military setup of the clique which had been a major threat to the country and the region. Some of the key leaders of this group have been arrested and brought to justice, while the rest have been disarrayed to be fugitives on the run.

The government has been urging senior TPLF military and political leaders, who are suspected of playing a major role in the crime, to surrender peacefully to law enforcement agencies. However, to the senior military and political leaders of the TPLF who do not respond to this last call to bring themselves to justice, the government notifieas in advance that all necessary measures will be taken to enforce the law, it was indicated.

Currently, the national defense force is building its capacity in terms of human and material resources. And in the graduation event in which the Lieutenant General made a keynote address the aforementioned statement is an excerpt. On the occasion, he also called on the graduates to honestly and selflessly serve their people.

Army Special Operations Force Chief Commander Major General Shuma Abdeta for his part noted that the main goal of the military empowerment effort is to build a military force that has the potential to achieve victory in each and every operation. Currently, the army is ready to ensure peace and security of citizens through defending it from any kind of aggression.

On the other hand, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed had visited Homicho Ammunition Engineering Industry, which is among the industries that assist the national army through providing ammunitions. The industry specializes in producing a wide-range of military arsenals for The Ethiopian National Defense Force (ENDF).

After visiting the industry, the premier has commended ENDF’s capacity to manufacture global standard military products. It is to be recalled that the Ethiopian National Defense Forces have begun to reform and strengthen production capacity to maintain country’s sovereignty in a sustainable manner. The premier pledged to continue strengthening efforts to empower the national defense forces.

ENDF is strengthening its capacity from time to time utilizing various law enforcement and peacekeeping operations as an opportunity to evaluate its potential. Accordingly, the military has drawn lessons from past experiences how it can possibly defend the nation from internal and external threats. That is why many recommend the bellicose to avoid war including a guerilla fight with ENDF.
