Mr.Tefera Mekonen, seasoned Ethiopian civil aviation expert, has been elected as the Secretary General of African Civil Aviation Commission on Monday (December 03). Government of Ethiopia has played significant roles in soliciting supports for him.
Mr.Tefera has been elected as the new Secretary General during the 29th Plenary (Extraordinary) meeting of African Civil Aviation Commission (AFCAC) that took place Yesterday (Dec. 03) in Zambia. He has been competing representing the East Africa.
During his campaign, the Ministry of Foreign affairs Ethiopia has utilized all diplomatic options to secure the necessary supports from African brothers and sisters using the 11th African Union Extraordinary Summit which was recently convened in Addis Ababa.
In connection to Mr. Tefera’s election, Foreign Minister Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu forwarded his thanks to the African Countries for the unreserved support they bestowed.
Dr. Workneh said that Mr. Tefera’s election as the new Secretary General of AFCAC would be a great opportunity for Ethiopia advance African interests of the civil aviation industry in international platforms.
He also added that the Government of Ethiopia is committed to supporting Ethiopians residing in and out of the country, in their venture for posts in the international organizations. He affirmed that this would help to protect interests of not only Ethiopia but also Africa.
According to MOFA, Mr.Tefera Mekonen was former director general of Ethiopian Civil Aviation Authority.
