ADDIS ABABA- Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed said that the study to transform the ruling coalition to a national political party is near to completion.
The Premier made the remark during a discussion on Sunday with over 3,000 community representatives drawn from five states namely Harari, Gambela, Benishangul Gumuz, Afar and Ethiopian Somali states.
PM Abiy said on the occasion that all coalition and affiliated members of the ruling Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) would be equally represented in the new arrangement.
“After few months, there will no Somali political party, neither do Afar, Benishangul, Oromo or Amhara and the reform is in fast progress to create a political party that all Ethiopians will be represented, and their voice will be heard, and they all take part in decision-making.”
During its 11th Congress in last October, EPRDF had passed on a resolution to transform itself to a national political party that comprises members and affiliate parties of the coalition. The decision is aimed to create a platform for citizens’ equal participation in the decision-making positions based on merits, it was learnt.
