
- Arba Minch University graduates near to 5,000 students

ARBA MINCH – The Science and Higher Education Ministry stated that Ethiopia has strictly demanded diligent, civic-minded, productive and responsible citizenry to take over the future.
In his keynote speech at the graduation ceremony of students from the Arba Minch University yesterday, Minister Samuel Hurkato (Ph.D) said that as higher education institutions have played a facilitator role for economic, social, political development and prosperity of the country, they are expected to produce disciplined, hardworking and reasonable professionals to push the nation to the next level of success.
As graduates are part of the future decision makers of the country, they have to have the capacity knowledge and skill to make a difference and brighten the future of the country.
He called on graduates to utilize the acquired knowledge and skill to improve the lives of the community and ensure the country’s development as well as strengthen diversity, he said.
Samuel expressed his gratitude to families, lecturers, the whole community and graduates to realize this great day at this challenging time of COVID -19 pandemic.
Arba Minch University President Damtew Darza (Ph.D) on his part said that considering the role of education in improving community life, the government has been working towards promoting quality education by ensuring peace and security, development and democracy in the country.
Increasing the number of educated citizens is pertinent as it plays a decisive role in sustaining the economic growth of the country. As part of it, the education sector has been underway a wide range of activities including education roadmap to improve its quality.
Over the last five years, the university had been working attaching due emphasis to strengthening and expanding the post graduate programs. As a result, it is creating capacity for international competitiveness and research and community services.
Moreover, the university has strived to strengthen the existing post graduate and Ph.D programs and open other essential programs to support the country’s effort to economic development, he stated.
It has planned to give special focus in manufacturing, agriculture, tourism, mine and information communication technology sectors in the next ten years.
Arba Minch University graduated 4,858 students in undergraduate, post graduate and P.h.D programs, it was learnt.
