The tale of two neighbors

BY ALEM HAILU

 I) Ingratitude(Sudan)

Though all along

The time line

You have been

A good neighbor

Also by us

In our internal peace

Maintaining endeavor,

Subtly we have

To stab you

In the back

True to

Our hidden wish

And invisible hand

Tranquility

When you lack.

 BY ALEM HAILU

Unless at this

Historic juncture

We take a chunk from

Your borderland

How could another

Opportunity we stand?

You see

In a full-scale battle

We may buckle.

Because Ethiopia is

A valor-marked land,

God is by whose side

By his rules

As citizens abide.

Pendulous by our nature

Ingratitude is our attitude.

Some of us in Sudan’s

Military wing,

Mercenaries, proxy war

Yearned to swing

Affected by

Hypersomnia to

A retaliatory

Hornet sting.

II) Gratitude (Djibouti)

A building up

Internal tension

In a given nation

No doubt on neighbors

Could have

A domino effect

As proved

Scenarios to date.

By squashing

The TPLF junta

With power-lust

Corruption, ethnocentrism

Obsessed

A regional challenge

You have addressed.

Our most honorous

Military-feat

Confer on your

Top General we shall!

Gratitude marks

Our attitude.

A friend in need

Is a friend indeed

Good neighbors

For good end

Backscratching

We have to heed.
