Japan to confer decoration on Ethiopians for roles in Ethio-Japan ties

ADDIS ABABA – The Government of Japan announced it would confer decorations upon two Ethiopian dignitaries in 2021 for their contribution to the elevation of Ethio-Japan ties.

In his message of New Year, ITO Takako, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia said that his country would bestow decoration on two Ethiopians who helped strengthen relations between Ethiopia and Japan.

While on the subject, the two Ethiopians are Hordofa Bekele Gome and Dr. Tegegnework Gettu.

Hordofa is former Deputy Chairperson of the Ethio-Japan Parliamentary Friendship Group and incumbent Member of the House of Peoples’ Representatives, who contributed to fostering our bilateral relations and promoting a mutual exchange between our respective members of parliament, said the Ambassador.

Dr. Tegegnework, the former United Nations Under-Secretary-General and UNDP Associate Administrator, is also to receive a decoration due to his contributions to strengthening economic relations between Japan and Africa through the TICAD process, the Ambassador indicated.
