ADDIS ABABA – The Ministry of Peace stated that building an inclusive democratic system embracing all peoples of the country is of paramount importance in building a common country which is capable of treating citizen’s equality and fair.
Muferihta Kamil, Peace Minister on a community-based dialogue said that the ministry is working in collaboration with the stakeholders to discharge its responsibilities of widening the political landscape through dialogue.
In a multinational country like Ethiopia, it is important to craft a comprehensive and well inclusive strategy, and the ministry is deploying strategies that could incorportae the voice of all peoples of the country.
The ministry is discharging its responsibility of enhancing peace by creating structure which extends to the kebele administration.
The ministry also hosts various consultative forums. It has created a two level national consultative forum over last one and half year.
The platform is inclusive of the lower administration which has direct contact with the community. The second is a consultative forum organized by elites. All the regions except Tigray participated in the forum. The forum lasts for three consecutive months ahead.
The forum aims at cultivating the culture of pluralism, tolerance, and the trend of peaceful conflict resolution mechanisms.
In a historical country like Ethiopia, the people need to cultivate the habit of resolving conflict in a democratic way than violence.
In the recent times, this habit of tolerance had been overridden. This is the major challenge compromising our effort to build a democratic culture.
The forum creates a platform for political parties as well, and its ultimate goal is creating a national consensus on our common affairs. This forum is a means to lasting peace and stability, too.
Likewise, the elites’ forum is aimed at creating positive thinking in the community and letting them express their opinion freely. Hence, the ministry strives to hold subsequent forums in conglomeration with all concerned bodies.
