ADDIS ABABA – World Together Ethiopia donated food items and sanitary materials in a bid to assisting Ethiopian Veterans of Korean War and other vulnerable groups in Addis Ababa.
The donation valued at eight million Birr had been provided to 589 households, as it was indicated at a ceremony that took place at the Ethiopian Korea War Veterans Memorial Park.
Speaking at the occasion, Country Director of World Together Ethiopia Park Yong Kyu said each household had been provided with 20 kgs of Teff, 3 liters of edible oil, 15 pcs of spaghetti, 5 kgs of potato, 20 pcs of face mask, 500 ml of hand sanitizer, 2packed water, and 2 liters laundry soup monthly from September 2020 – December 2020.
With regards to COVID-19, this Organization gave capacity building training to 100 health post members selected from Bole, Yeka, Arada, Gulelle, Lafto, and Kality sub-cities.
He added the donation was made in collaboration with KOICA while the training and selection of vulnerable groups was carried out in collaboration with the Women and Children office.
One of the beneficiaries, Veteran Hailemichael Genet said, as a member of the Ethiopian troops that participated in the Korean War, he had offered help for injured soldiers at four hospitals in Osaka, Tokyo, and Pusan cities.
“World Together Ethiopia gives us money every two months, but I am happier with the food items on this time of COVID-19 pandemic as we are weak, unable to work and we can’t survive without the support, I want to thank them.”
World Together Ethiopia an International Relief and Development NGO registered in Federal Agency for Civil Societies Organization. The organization started its operation in Ethiopia since 2005 with the vision of extending and helping hand to Korean War Veterans and their descendants, children who are suffering different difficulties.
Apart from supporting veterans, it operates LG-KOICA Hope TVET College to train youth on IT and Electronic fields free of charge.
