ADDIS ABABA – The Second Cup of Excellence Ethiopia Competition was officially launched yesterday. The announcement was made when Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority, Ethiopian Coffee Exporters Association, and USAID’s feed the future Ethiopia Value chain activity jointly briefed journalists on the competition.
According to Dr. Adugna Debella, Director-General of Ethiopian Coffee and Tea Authority, the Cup of Excellence is the most prestigious annual competition of high-quality coffee.
At the event, Cup of Excellence Coordinator from Feed the Future Ethiopia Value Chain Activity, Kidist Mulugeta said: “We will start receiving samples starting from January 24 ,2013 EC. Coffee exporters, farmers and those who involved in coffee business are welcomed to take part in the competition.”
Desalegn Jena, Board President of Ethiopian Coffee Exporter Association, said that Ethiopia is the origin of coffee, it has a lot of coffee flavor. “Last year, we enabled to sell 1 kg for 407 USD during the competition, breaking the Ethiopian coffee record.”
