UN reaffirms commitment to support Ethiopia’s stability: Spokesperson

ADDIS ABABA-The United Nations (UN) announced that it will continue to support Ethiopia in efforts of realizing stability in affected areas of the Tigray State, Foreign Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Dina Mufti said.

 Ambassador Dina made this remark during the Ministry’s weekly press briefing held yesterday.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Demeke Mekonnen held talks with UN representatives, according to him.

During the discussion, the UN delegates were briefed on current affairs, humanitarian assistance, and issues relating to the law enforcement measures, the spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, the visit of Sudanese Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok to Ethiopia over the weekend was fruitful and the two countries reached an agreement to resolve their differences through dialogue, according to Ambassador Dina.

Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Ph.D) and Prime Minister Abdalla Hamdok have reached an agreement on the repatriation of some 40,000  Ethiopian refugees who entered Sudan under the threat of law enforcement measures.

Prime Minister Abiy’s visit to Kenya also highlighted that the two countries have strong historical ties beyond neighborliness.

According to him, the visit witnesses a great lesson to bring about regional integration and making the Ethio-Kenya border Moyale an economic corridor.
