The role and participation of women in various sectors has been understated due to various reasons. However, several Ethiopian women, breaking the traditional stereotype of their counterparts and going beyond the expectation of the society, they have enabled to outshine gloriously and known for their exemplary deeds.
Women, from the field of science to law, from leadership to athletics, they have proved their braveness through their outstanding achievements.
The first Ethiopian Pilot, Captain Amsale Gualu, Lawyer and Disability Rights Activist Loret Yetnebersh Nigussie, Founder of Sheger FM 102.1 Meaza Biru, Pianist Emahoy Tsege Maryam Gebru, Lawyer and Women’s rights activist, Meaza Ashenafi, Autism activist Zemi Yenus, the first black African woman Olympic gold medal champion Athlete Derartu Tulu are just to mention (but) a few.
Even these days, the indomitable spirit and achievements of Ethiopian women is heralded across the country and beyond. Women taking part in government’s law enforcement operations carried out at Mekelle have registered historic victory in beating the TPLF junta and defending the sovereignty of the country-with firm commitment and strength, female soldiers have done amazing jobs.
When one can see the face of this heroine, he can easily understand their indomitable spirit, devotion and enthusiasm- to defend the sovereignty of the nation and putting the traitors before law.
Those who know them can simply witnesses soldiers’ commitment and talk about their strength.
Soldiers Asdesach Takele and Tarike Ermiyas joined the army from Hadiya and Gamo zones. Both are at the age of 20 and members of the 24th Mechanized. During the law enforcement measures that were undertaken on Tigray State, both militias have played their parts bravely, along with their comrade-in-arms.
Soldier Asdesach was part of the law enforcement operations from the beginning. She remembered how the National Defence Forces have made special care on its operations against the TPLF junta not to cause any possible damage on the society in Akere and its surroundings.
The Forces have gone all-out to put the rebelling group before justice, as to her.
Unfortunately, few meters away from the area, Asdesach slipped down and broke her right hand in one of the mountainous areas in uncontrolled manner. Even with agonized with the pain of her broken hand, she refused to give away her arms.
Rather, she made herself ready to defend herself. Fortunately, when the Defense Forces have taken full control of the area, she was able to be taken to the hospital.
While following medical treatment from Bahir Dar City, she was desperately asking for her artillery. Her utmost desire was returning to the law enforcement operation. Now, she has fully recovered from her illness and is requesting to be returned.
Mentioning that females’ participation in the army was one of a kind, she noted that there were higher officials and women who hold around 150 bullets and completed their duties. These women could be example for others, she stressed.
Soldier Tarike on her part said: “Returning to the city is not part of my plan. What I want is to live for my country’s sovereignty and protect my peoples’ peace and security.”
She went on saying that females being part of the operations; they have played significant role in fighting, encouraging and motivating the entire army.
According to her, female soldiers have done incredible jobs and were ready to sacrifice themselves in return of ensuring the sovereignty of the nation.
She also uttered the incidents that led her life to the brink of death at the law enforcement operation in Akere city. Even though she was shot on her upper thigh and lost a lot of blood, she was committed to go ahead with the fight.
Once she received the first aid treatment from Defense Forces’ medical team and took further treatment in Bahir Dar City, she expressed her willingness to return to the army. However, she was told that there were enough forces at the moment and she would be called when it is necessary.
Still, there are plenty of female soldiers who are taking part in hunting the TPLF clique in different areas. And they have proved as they are Armies’ right hands.
