ADDIS ABABA – The Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) has awarded the Olympic African Order of Merit to Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Ph.D) with the highest African sport recognition.
ANOCA held a meeting on Sunday in Addis Ababa, during the assembly, the award was received by Culture and Tourism Minister Dr. Hirut on behalf of the Prime Minister.
The award is meant to his exemplary commitment in supporting of Ethiopian sports and services to the Olympic Movement.
The Minister on the occasion said: “Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed is a leader who is well aware of the multifaceted benefits of sports. “For example, she recalled that he calmed down members of the military who marched to the office for improper purposes doing push-ups with the soldiers.
She also mentioned that one of the prime minister’s project, Entoto Park, has been built by paying particular attention to sports ANOCA Executive Board was decided to award its highest African Sport recognition to the Prime Minister last August. The ANOCA Order of Merit is awarded to the contribution of African leaders to the growth of the Olympics.
