
● Vows to reinforce youth campaigns in defense of GERD
ADDIS ABABA – A Youths’ Voluntary Service Started at Injibara of the Amhara State concluded in Beshasha Elementary School in Goma Woreda, Jimma Zone of the Oromia State after renovating dilapidated class rooms and building new ones where the current Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (Ph.D.) attended his lower elementary grades.
Over 20 youth representatives drawn from the four corners of the country have just been touring towns aboard the citizenship services.
The volunteers had paid homage and inspirational visit to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) project site in the Benishangul-Gumuz Regional State too as part of their trans-boundaries voluntary service. They vowed to lend hands to the construction of the dam through their associations.
From July 15 up to 28, the Oromia Regional State cross border citizenship service volunteerism was accompanied by young people who participated in various parts of the country.
Initiated by the Oromia Youth, Children and Women Affairs Bureau and various youth associations, the trans-boundary youths’ voluntary services were concluded Tuesday in Addis Ababa in the presence of Youth, Children and Women Affairs Minister Filsan Abdulahi, Oromia State Deputy President and Urban Clustering Coordinator Chaltu Sani, Oromia State Youth, Children and Women Affairs Bureau Head Muna Ahmed and other representatives of states and federal offices.
Minister Filsan Abdulahi urged the youth to redouble their participation in the peace process and contribute to the peace building efforts at the national level.
Chaltu Sani, Deputy Chief of the Oromia Regional State for her part stated that currently the country is facing double pronged challenges – COVID-19- induced difficulties and security threats in some parts.
Thus, youths could be forces to either build or wreck down a country, she underscored urging the youth for their active role in the peace and development endeavors of their cherished nation.
During the wrapping up event Oromia Youth, Children and Women Affairs Bureau Head, Muna Ahmed said that as a cardinal goal the trans-boundary voluntary youths’ citizenship services aimed at shaping generations’ mentality in order to benefit the public beyond personal gains.
“The campaign zeroed in on molding the young generation for yet higher patriotism, national feeling, peaceful coexistence and love of the people. It anchored on moving forward in unison for a prosperous destiny.”
She further added that such youth commitments are significant in defending the country’s interest in the Abay River and the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam.
