
ADDIS ABABA – The Embassy of the Republic of South Africa has handed over sanitary materials including hand sanitizers, sanitary pads, soap and other cleaning materials to needy students.
According to Press Release sent to The Ethiopian Herald yesterday the Embassy made the donation in honor of Nelson Mandela Day.
Neslon Mandela Day is celebrated internationally annually in honor of Nelson Mandela on his birthday, 18 July as per decision of the United Nations on November 2009.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony, South African Ambassador to Ethiopia Edward Xolisa Makaya affirmed the commitment of the Embassy to work with the center to assist the needy students. HE said positive changes begin with small actions.
“AS each person acts that fuels the momentum towards positive change, raising awareness and expanding he outreach of president Mandela’s values that entail fighting for justice helping people in need, promotion of peaceful resolution of conflicts, nation building and reconciliation” he added.
The Embassy made the donation to Birhan Yihun Ethiopia Center. Many of the children and women in the area live under challenging circumstances and most of them are single parents, the press release indicated.
