Ethiopia is the first African country to introduce green growth strategy. Climate Resilience Green Economy is the driving force behind all its economic efforts. As the saying goes “Think globally and act locally” Ethiopia`s green growth economy is a witness how a single developing nation can contribute its share in global ecosystem.
The last three years are good indications how the nation is committed enough to discharge its global responsibility in fighting global warming. An economy that neglects the impact of carbon emission cannot deliver safe economy to the future generation. Seeing this, Ethiopia is striving hard to keep environmental equilibrium.
The various green development programs accomplish by the government and the people are part of this effort. Using his leadership position together with national vision, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed has taken the lead in this regard and positive impacts are witnessed within short period.
Countering climate change and paving the way for green growth is one of the pillars of Ethiopian development objectives. No matter how challenging the past three years were to the nation or the outbreak of Corona virus, the green development activities did not paused even for seconds. Using all available resources,
the nation is planting millions of seedlings. Green development is massive green development is a sign of hope, bright future and change. The parallelism between Ethiopian prosperity journey and greening are two sides of single coin. Whenever we talk about sustainable development, we are talking about delivering better and safe future to the coming generation. Safe journey needs safe environment. Having large factories and advanced technologies does not ensure success or development.
The future generation needs safe environment which is free from pollution. It needs safe air to breath. As it was repeatedly mentioned by Prime minister Abiy Ahmed, green and climate resilient economy is critical to Ethiopia`s move towards economic prosperity.
The world is found in a critical moment facing a deadly virus –Corona that paralyzed global economy and shut down various firms. Ethiopia is not exceptional to this. However, by considering its future reward the nation will keep on planting billions of seedlings till it hits the target. It has become years since Ethiopia introduced political and economic reforms and positive results are witnessed. The reform in political and economic affair is a good implication to the green development. What we plant today will reward us tomorrow..
