Council underlies COVID-19 combat amid Eid Al-Adha

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian Islamic Affairs Supreme Council urged the Muslim community to celebrate Eid Al-Adha holiday complying with pandemic prevention methods and rules of the State of Emergency.

Haji Mufti Umer Edris, President of the Council, stated in Wednesday’s press conference that when the Muslim community celebrates Eid Al-Adha holiday, they must act in accordance with pandemic prevention methods cascaded from religion rules and State of Emergency approaches to successfully prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.

He noted that because of COVID-19, we are not celebrating this year’s Eid Al-

 Adha holiday as we did in previous years. We have to take actions to prevent the pandemic. He also called on the Muslim community to provide those in need with humanitarian assistance during the Eid Al-Adha holiday celebration.

Haji Mufti Umer Edris wished the entire Muslim community a happy Eid al-Adha.

Eid Al-Adha festival is celebrated among Muslims all over the world on the 10th day of Dhu al-Hijjah, the twelfth and final month in the Islamic calendar, in remembrance of Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham) willingness to sacrifice his son Prophet Ismail. On this day, Muslims slaughter sheep, goats, camel, cows or oxen to honor the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim.
