ADDIS ABABA- Efforts are underway to increase the number of labor destination countries, disclosed Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs (MoLSA). It also disclosed alertness to assure the safety of citizens who will go to foreign countries which are signatories of bilateral agreements.
Speaking to The Ethiopian Herald, Birhanu Abera, Oversees Employment Director General said that, it has started activities with about five countries like United Arab Emirates, Beirut, Bahrain Oman and Kuwait.
As to him, it has started negotiations with United Arab Emirates and it had sent to Kuwait and Bahrain every necessary drafts helpful for negotiation.
“But things may not finalize as we needed and may not solely lean on our efforts. Things could depend on the receiving countries’ willing and response,” he added.
MOLSA could not explain the exact date but it will have the list of other labor destination countries soon, he added.
It is to be recalled that the country has signed agreements with three countries. MOLSA is also doing its best to assure citizens’ safety in these countries according to the agreement.
Birhanu went on to say, labor attache’ will be delegated to negotiate in respective countries and they will monitor the whereabouts of every legal migrant worker in these countries so as they could protect them from possibles hassles.
