First Lady calls on more African focus to vulnerable individuals

. The continental First Ladies organization changed name

ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopia’s First Lady Zinash Taychew urged Africans to pay attention to needy children and elderly poor at the 22nd African First Ladies General Assembly (OAFLA) held on Monday here in Addis.

The First Lady said that vulnerable groups like needy children and elderly poor deserve more attention from Africans if their problem is to be solved. There are children and elders in need of help everywhere in the continent, and Africans need to reach out to them, she added. Zinash also called upon the First Ladies for higher and deeper collaboration.

She reassured: “Compared to the overwhelming problem around us, what we are doing might seem less than a pebble thrown in a lake. I have no doubt that each pebble that is thrown in love has the ability to shake the lake.” The 22nd ordinary assembly, which was held under the theme ‘Giving attention to vulnerable people to transform Africa’, also saw the organization officially change its name to Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD).

According to African Union statement, the 22nd Ordinary General Assembly also endorsed the presentation and launch of OAFLAD New Strategic Plan (2019-2023) which envisions: “A developed Africa with healthy and empowered children, youth and women” with a goal to make a significant contribution to the health and well-being of children youth and women in Africa.
