•Plans to save about 7.6 bln Birr
ADDIS ABABA – Ministry of Women, Children and Youth said it has planned to mobilize 10.1 million volunteer youths in various nationwide activities in this summer season.
Alemayehu Mamo, Ministry Senior Public Relations and Communication Expert told The Ethiopian Herald that the ministry is working to develop the community’s culture of volunteerism and raise people’s awareness regarding benevolence.
According to him, the country has planned to engage 10.1 million volunteer youths in various voluntary activities and to save service provisions worth 7.6 billion Birr. And, over 23 million people will be benefited in this regard.
Ten sectors are identified where the youth can take part in voluntary services. These include COVID-19 prevention campaign, blood donation, counseling, tree plantation, humanitarian activity, traffic road safety and environmental conservation and among others.

“This year, due emphasis is given to prevention activities of the pandemic and youths would participate in awareness creation schemes to reduce the spread of COVID-19.”
Volunteers should conduct with maximum care to prevent themselves from possible COVID-19 contamination, he added. According to him, all people should be part of it.
Moreover, voluntarily services must not be a one-time occasion; it should be carried out at regular basis. In previous years, we have witnessed lack of coordination among partners. To solve it, further efforts are underway and stakeholders should take their part to make the act of generosity effective, he stated.es and service provision is improving too.
