ADDIS ABABA- The national greening campaign aiming at increasing forest coverage of the country, requires everyone’s participation and contribution, said Beyan Tesema, a Dire Dawa resident, who is recognized for his private forestry development.
At a time of environmental crisis, greening is a matter of life, and the ongoing national greening campaign should be well guided by the government and well participated by the public, he told The Ethiopian Herald.
He said that he has planted more than 260,000 tree seedlings. “I have started planting with 2,000 seedlings and I want to set a new world record currently held by Kenyan Wangari Maathai and become the leading private forest developer ,” he said.
However, he remarked that shortage of land has been a challenge to his work while he has a desire of covering more degraded lands with trees.
“I am really happy to work at any corner of the county. And I want to express my appeal to concerned governmental officials to provide me with additional land for greening,” he expressed.
