ADDIS ABABA– The Geospatial Information Institute, in collaboration with the Land Bank and Development Corporation, has conducted cadastral survey over 19 federal institutes in the first round to identify the developed and undeveloped land resources. The Institutes will further conduct cadastral survey over 200 federal institutes in Addis Ababa.

Director General of the Ethiopian Geospatial Institute Tulu Besha (PhD) said that the cadastral information of the federal institutes are being conducted through modern technology that helps to identify exact locations, and implement land policies and regulations in appropriate system.

Since the cadastral information survey focused on following the proper means to facilitate the development of the country, the institutes should collaborate to provide adequate information for surveyors and technical officers, she advised.

GebreKiros Haile, Coordinator of the Cadastral Survey Project, told The Ethiopian Herald that the project eyes on identifying the developed and undeveloped land resources owned by federal government institutes through conducting reliable cadastral information. The survey measures the institutes’ width, unused places and other related informations, he added.

According to Gebrekiros, the project has already undertaken the survey over institutions such as Ethiopian Cultural Center, Ministry of Education, Berhanina Selam Enterprise, National theater, Civil Aviation Authority, and the Ethiopian Standard Agency. However, bureaucratic red tapes, unwillingness from the federal institutes, poor understanding about the project were the major challenges for the surveyors, he noted.

Director General of Land Bank and Development Corporation Lensa Mokonnen said for her part that surveyors took GPS picture and enumeration works during the implementation of the first round cadastral survey. Although the survey was conducted over 19 federal institutes, the information required from over 200 federal institutes will be conducted in the near future, she explained.

According to Lensa, various challenges are expected while conducting cadastral surveys. Some institutions are not willing to cooperate with surveyors. Thus, the Corporation has called on Institutes to prepare themselves for providing appropriate information while asked by surveyors, she notified.
