COVID-19 testing facilities reach 25

ADDIS ABABA-Ministry of Health announced the testing capacity is expanding to states bringing the total number of testing facilities to 25.

Speaking to The Ethiopian Herald, Public Relations Director at Ministry of Health Dr. Tegene Regassa said testing facilities have increased to 25 of which three of them are in Addis and 22 of them are states. The daily testing capacity at the national level has reached over 2000 cases, he added.

Testing capacity is being expanded in different ten states towns like Semera,  Dessie, Haramaya, Nekemte, Bahir Dar, Jimma, Hawassa, Adama, Mekelle, and Jigjiga among others, he noted

However he said: “the nation is falling short of a plan to test 5300 cased daily mainly due to various constraints. We can reach on the planned target when such a problem resolved.”

“On the other hand, tycoons, diaspora communities and the public continue to support the fight against the pandemic which include money and equipment, he said.

For example, the Diaspora Trust Fund has collected fund worth one million USD last week, it funneled the finance to Corona Virus Committee and the US government also gives over 37 million USD for the prevention efforts.

It is to be called that previously suspected cases were sent to South Africa for testing.
