The whole world has been supporting and praising the sweeping reforms that have been taking place in Ethiopia for the last two years. This is because the reform has stopped this great nation from becoming a battleground of endless civil wars.
Ethiopia for the first time in its history has seen all armed forces coming back home having given up arms and accepted peace deal of the government. Media outlets that were operating in exile have been allowed to go air inside the country. Thousands of prisoners of conscience have been released and prominent political figures of the country have returned home from exile.
The National Election Board of Ethiopia has been made for the first time to run by impartial chairperson and the same is also true to the chief justice of the country.
After the reformists assumed power, the political and media landscapes of the country have been widening and the efforts of building up democratic societies have been going on well despite old challenges.
Apparently ,the incumbent ,qualified contesting political parties , the National Election Board and general public had been getting ready to take part in the 6th general elections, but the global pandemic – COVID -19 has forced the election to be postponed and has also created constitutional deadlock.
Law makers, therefore, recently voted for constitutional interpretation over election postponement. except few individuals; all walks of life have expressed full support for the decision of the House of Peoples’ Representatives.
Also a number of legal experts have been explaining in plain language the advantages of opting constitutional interpretation to resolve the constitutional crisis.
Knowingly or unknowingly some experts and politicians, however, are attempting to deceive the public at large citing articles from the constitution and providing half -baked explanation.
Thus, these individuals should know when enough is enough and refrain from their ill intent to violate the constitution instigating chaos sooner than later.
