ADDIS ABABA – The Addis Ababa University (AAU)emerged the overall winners of the Inter Collegiate Cross Country athletics race that was held on Sunday at Janmeda. The Inter Collegiate race brought together 269 athletes from 27 universities. The organizers earlier announced that all 42 universities would take part in the race.
In the women’s race AdashKinetibeb of Debrebirhan University came out first leaving behind AddiseChaglo of AAU and KassayAgumas of Debrebirhan University to take the second and third places, in the order of that. In the men’s race, AshenafiTadesse of AAU, HalefomTesfay of Mekele and AbebawYanew of Deberebirhan University occupied from one up to three places, in that order.
In the women’s event AAU came out first with a tally of 19 points while Debrebirhan took the second place with 25 points. Jima University won the third place with a tally of 71. In the men’s event AAU was dominant to take the top spot with 23 points while Debebirhan and Wachemo University took the second and third places, respectively. The winners in the women’s and men’s events will participate in the international cross country race that will take place in Italy next July.
