“Information, reports that come from Egypt meant to distort attitude of their audiences” -Professor Yacob Arsano

ADDIS ABABA-“Information and reports that come out of Egypt are meant to distort the attitude of their audiences regarding the Nile issue,” said Prof. Yacob Arsano Political Science and International Relations lecturer and researcher on the Nile issue at Addis Ababa University.

In an exclusive interview with Ethiopia Press Agency reporters, Prof. Yacob said in Egypt’s side, information and reporting in relation to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) has been disseminated extensively. Apart from this, a lot of press releases have also been issued. However, most of the information and reporting aim to distort the attitude of their audiences about the issue.

Indicating that the information is deliberately designed to confuse the thinking of the audience, the professor said, the effort is not only limited to the media, diplomatic activities and political discourse. Instead, it also extends to scientific and academic reports.

Prof. Yacob added that it is not necessary

to compete with Egypt in this regard. Instead what is expected of the Ethiopian government and other stakeholders is to make reliable information accessible to concerned bodies.

As to Prof.Yacob, Egypt’s effort to stand in the way of cooperation will not take it any further as the other riparian countries will continue to develop their resources in cooperation.

Egypt has been trying to obliterate the Cooperative Framework Agreement ever since the start as it wants to maintain monopoly over the Nile waters, he added.
