Renewing commitments to see prosperous Ethiopia

Today is the 79th Ethiopian Patriots’ Victory Day. The holiday commemorates the brave resistance of Ethiopia’s people against the Italian invasion of the 1930’s and, more specifically, the victory in Addis Ababa in 1941 that led to Ethiopia’s independence.

Particularly, this year’s victory day reminds all citizens living inside and outside to repeat forefathers and foremothers’ patriotic deeds in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic.

In fact, this global pandemic will for sure put the country’s sovereignty under threat, if all Ethiopians do not play their integral part in containing the spread of the deadly virus in a timely manner.

What makes the fight against COVID-19 worse now is that, Ethiopia is passing through very difficult time in its entire history. The general elections that were scheduled to take place on August 29, 2020 have been postponed due to coronavirus. Locust infestation is now posing great threat to Ethiopia and its neighboring countries. Moreover, the filling and operations of Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) have recently become serious bone of contentions between Ethiopia and Egypt.

Furthermore, making holy matrimony with Ethiopia’s sworn enemies, some ill intent politicians who are always putting their personal gain first are also making useless attempt to turn the current undesired political

situations to their own advantages at the expense of the country’s sovereignty and public at large.

This day, however, offers great lessons to all that no matter what kind of challenges are, genuine and patriotic Ethiopians will emerge victorious finally and Ethiopia will prosper sooner than later working hard day and night.

Therefore, the current generation has to renew  its commitments towards shouldering responsibilities to overcome the aforesaid political and economic hardships during this special day.

One must not also forget that “Our ancestors was in state of wrestling not only to ensure their rights; more so the rights of other human being, particularly the black people.”
