ADDIS ABABA – Ethiopian Roads Authority signed an agreement with six construction companies to construct seven asphalt roads in different parts of the country at a cost of 11.6 billion Birr.
Signing the agreement yesterday, Engineer Habtemu Tegegne, Director General of the Authority said that the all the seven roads, which in total is 509.11 km long, will be financed by the government.
He underscored that the companies that won the bid agreed to complete the construction within three to four years.
Among the companies that won the bid to construct the roads, five of them are local companies whilst the remaining is a Chinese construction company called China TCG Civil Engineering Company.
The construction includes the 109.82 km long Jijiga-Gelelesh-Degehamdo-Segeg, and 108.5 km long Debre Berhan-Denebe-Lemi junction-jihur Denebe road projects.
As to the Director, the construction of these roads is very helpful in enabling farmers and other manufacturing agents to supply their products easily for market.
Sunshine Construction Company is among the companies that won the bid and signed the agreement. On the occasion, General Manager of the company, Dr. Samuel Tefesse vowed to finish the construction even before the agreement period using its long years experiences.
