ADDIS ABABA – Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MoSHE) announced that it is decided to continue postgraduate and Third Degree students’ teaching-learning process with online platform after it discussed with all higher education presidents.
MoSHE on its website announced Thursday that following the closing-up of higher education’s due to the outbreak of COVID-19 in Ethiopia, higher officials of the Ministry hold discussion with all University Presidents on the possibilities for the continuation of higher education.
According to the Ministry, after the discussion, the officials reached an agreement to implement the Ministry’s direction of starting online education. The online platform is decided to start formal teaching-learning process for postgraduate and third degree students by providing all necessary modules, materials and handouts.
It also reiterated that the officials are also agreed to provide reading materials and supportive books through online platform for undergraduate students, though the undergraduate formal education to continue after the opening of the educations.
In this case, it was decided universities to adjust all necessary works for the online platform and lecturers to prepare courses for online education, aimed to reach to all students in their homes.
Third Degree students, unless it is difficult for data and information gathering for their researches, they should continue their contact with their advisors using video conferences.
Meanwhile, it is recalled that the Ministry is agreed with Ethio-Telecom applied “Zero-rating” free internet access for selective educational and research websites and applications for lecturers and students using their end user devises.
For this purpose over 80 thousand books, first year course modules and research papers are prepared plus platforms are also set to access these materials by the ministry.
