The unity of purpose among the Chinese government, people and health workers, individuals and the like in containing the spread and worst impacts of COVID-19 is worth emulating, said Teshome Toga Chanaka, Ethiopian Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to China.
In an exclusive opinion peace sent to The Ethiopian Herald, he said as unity of purpose and sense of responsibility are absolutely critical in mitigating the effects of the virus. He also commended what he described as the Chinese capability of managing the crisis citing the construction of a 1,000 bed hospital in 10 days, the increment of production capacity of protective gears from a million a day to tens of millions. “It is simply unbelievable,” he said.
The ambassador also slammed those who tend to attach the virus to citizens and any other groups where the virus broke out. “People should understand that pandemics had been breaking out in any part of the world in the past and they will in the future.”Teshome called up on leaders at all levels and the individuals in general to fight stigma, xenophobia and discrimination.
