A premier who punches above his weight

Back in the day, Ethiopia was backing itself into a corner following unrest taking place in the left, right and center of the country. Though all and sundry struggled for their rights and freedoms around the clock and made an effort to topple the administration implicated with gruesome human rights abuses from the face of the country, quite a lot of sacrifices had been made.

By the same token, several Ethiopians had closed their eyes never to open them again. Everybody was giving up hope seeing that no earthly power could overthrow the regime no matter what the cost may be. This being the case, Ethiopians were busying crying their eyes out for their beloved ones and praying for better days.

When the former Ethiopian premier, Hailemariam Desalegn announced his resignation on the spur of the moment, Ethiopians could not believe their eyes and ears owing to his unanticipated decision. The news turned out to be the talk of the entire world and spread like wildfire in every nook and cranny of Ethiopia. As time progressed, when Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed took the oath of office, Ethiopians set in motion expressing their infinite happiness in all shapes and forms time after time. Some of them resorted to crying tears of joy and others getting themselves engaged in a wide spectrum of joyful activities.

To the surprise of everyone, the premier’s charismatic speech set in motion winning the hearts and minds of everyone in the twinkling of an eye. Subsequently, aside from pleading Ethiopians not to hold a grudge in relation to what the previous government had done, the Prime Minster jumpstarted showering the general public with pieces of advice placing emphasis on love, hope, and forgiveness on the grounds that they are some of the pillars that lead the country to prosperity and other related aspects.

In the same way, he managed to lift restrictions on the access to the internet, release all political prisoners, bring into play quite a lot of reforms, abandon legal reforms of the repressive Anti-Terrorism and the Charities and Societies laws and what have you. Likewise, he was able to make opposition groups living in a wide spectrum of the world to return home, release prisoners suffering from torture and abuse now and then.

Additionally, former government and military officials are put into custody over allegations of corruption and human rights abuses. Furthermore, the Prime Minister has made significant breakthroughs in overpoweringly protracted conflicts for the most part in building long-term peace in the war-scarred region of the Horn of Africa. He was also managed to open doors to withstand peace in the region. A case in point, the premier made peace between Eritrea and Djibouti, Eritrea and Somalia, as well as Eritrea and Sudan. Earlier than forming his government that has comprised of 50 % female ministers; he left for the USA and Europe under the motto of “Let’s demolish the wall and build a bridge” and reconnected the Ethiopian Diasporas.

He as well went to the Middle East countries, South Africa, Israel, other countries for the same purpose. The premier managed to win Nobel Peace Prize for his unreserved efforts in making peace between Ethiopian and Eritrea that have been at loggerheads for years. At the moment, he is taking the country to elections and demarcations breaking the old regime and making Ethiopians come to unity, prosperity, love, harmony, and other related aspects despite challenges.
