ADDIS ABABA – The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) said it has been undertaking various endeavors aiming at empowering its female customers and employees.
Yeabsira Kebede, CBE Corporate Communications Acting Director told The Ethiopian Herald that the Bank has for long been empowering and supporting its female employees to reach managerial levels.
In its history, the Bank has empowered and promoted its employees at a lower level, including women, to become managers, he said.
The training center the bank launched some years ago is helping to equip women with leadership skills.
Recently, the Bank has launched a center of excellence which is also helping to build the capacity of women employees, Yeabsira pointed out.
He added, last year, the bank has opened its first-ever all-female run branch. Days ago, it has also launched its second all-female run branch at Lideta locality in Addis Ababa.
Being the largest bank in Ethiopia, CBE is striving to increase its female customers to become successful. “That is why it has introduced special saving account for women seven years ago,” he said.
He also added, the Bank has 4.7 million female customers who are using this special service that provide them with higher interest. So far, the women have saved some 4.7 billion birr in the special account.
The Bank will continue to pay special attention to its women employees and customers and to the empowerment of women as a whole, Yeabsira stated.
