ADDIS ABABA – Bahir Dar city, the capital of Amhara State, has generated over 329 million Birr from tourism during the mid-term of this fiscal year, The Ethiopia Herald learned.
City Culture, Tourism, and Sports Head Abreham Asefa said that the amount was secured from foreign and local tourists who paid visits to Lake Tana, Tis Abay (Blue Nile Falls), and Zegae.
The number of local tourists who visited the city in the last six months was 195,733 with the number of foreign tourists reaching 29,528 while the earnings represent 131 million Birr and 198 million Birr respectively.
The revenue exceeded the planned amount accomplishing over 100 percent of its targets, he stated. The relative peace and growing special holidays are ascribable to the better performance of the sector, he added. “Apart from this, the revenue has soared as more and more local people developed a culture of visiting their historical places”.
