. 3rd SMS fundraising program officially launched
ADDIS ABABA – President Sahle-Work Zewde called on all Ethiopians to repeat the spirit of the victory of Adwa in completing the construction.
During the announcement of the 3rd round SMS 8100A fundraising program for the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) yesterday at the Grand Palace Sahle-Work said the spirit of Adwa must be reflected in citizens’ day to day activities as it is the symbol of unity.
“For us Ethiopians, GERD is more than a development project as it is the symbol of endurance and strong commitment for a cause. The flagship project is a demonstration that Ethiopians would accomplish the seemingly impossible when they join hands. ”
GERD is a weapon to eradicate poverty and support future development. With collective efforts, Ethiopians will finalize the construction in the near future, she added. She also called on the public to actively participate in the 3rd round SMS 8100A fundraising program for GERD.
“Our interest is reducing poverty by properly utilizing our natural resources without harming the interests of downstream countries,” she said. “Our vision is also to make the region free of conflict and a center for growth and development by working in collaboration with our neighbors and downstream countries.”
Office of the National Council for the Coordination of Public Participation on the Construction of Dam (NCCPPCD) officially announced or launched yesterday that the 3rd round SMS fundraising scheme to raise funds for the construction of GERD.
Roman Gebreselassie, Coordinator at NCCPPCD on her part said over 13.8 billion Birr has been collected from the public so far in the form of bond sales and others.
