This year’s victory of Adwa was celebrated colorfully throughout the country yesterday for 124th time. Indeed, at the battlefield of Adwa on March 1896, our forefathers and foremothers not only defeated the fascist Italian invaders but also broke the yoke of colonialism once and for all.
Obviously, on this very day, much of African was under colonial rule and so the victory gave flicker of hope for African brothers and sisters as it uplifted their spirits for freedom. This is because, following the victory of Adwa, many had believed that the era of colonialism would come to end soon.
It is also true that the victory of Adwa had given Africans strength when they carried out a multitude of anti-colonial movements after the end of World War II.
In fact, there are countless lessons to be learned from Adwa, particularly at this period of time, Ethiopian youth have to work harder to build a democratic and prosperous country turning deaf ears to those are trying to create division among Ethiopians based on ethnicity .
At this time, the youth of this nation have a promising future as the country is now on path of prosperity. Hence, for now on there would be no meaningless and worthless sacrifices for the youth in disguise of ethnic politics.
Also the youth should take important lesson form Adwa that is the significance of unity. If they are united, they can solve any problem that the country encounters.
Currently, Ethiopia has lots of problems. But, drawing lessons from the patriotic deeds of the past generations, the new generation will for sure overcome the hardships and pass down a democratic and prosperous Ethiopia to posterity.
History never forgets Ethiopian patriots who sacrificed their precious lives for upholding Ethiopia’s sovereignty and thanks to all their sacrifices, Ethiopia has proved to the world that it is now one of the vibrant nation in the world.
The victory of Adwa has made Ethiopians to decide the fate of their beloved nation by themselves. It also shoulders a big responsibility of standing against putting one’s narrow individual interest above the national interest.
Every fellow citizen needs to bear in mind that no matter how long it takes, Ethiopia will be one of the prosperous countries in the world and the spirit of Adwa will keep inspiring the youth for good. In general, the victory of Adwa, a historic water-shade, was celebrated accentuated with full success stories this year. The victory of Adwa will remain to be inspirational to every fellow citizen for overcoming any adversities in the future.
